“I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I come to die discover that I hadnot lived.”Henry David Thoreau - Walden; or, Life in the Woods

Materials and Textures

The materials were chosen in order to enhance the conceptual character of the store. The chromatic setting is kept in natural hues of white, wood and green.

Four different realms define the space:A. the entrance with a seating / waiting area oriented towards the store for a full view that invites you to explore it further on. This area also works as a buffer zone between the exterior world, outside the store and the exhibition.B. the main exhibition is conceived as a showroom with a forever changing exhibition. Suspended objects are floating in the air in a forest where you can unwind and contemplate, watch and read, touch the materials and objects. Regardless of their scale, the most important items can be exhibited here. Wood, leather, copper, brass, osier, cattail etc.C. jewelry and small objects - the exhibited objects are the main attraction here, thus our choice of materials: neutral white and wood.D. cafe and clothes As it offers a generous area for seating, this zone was considered the most appropriate for the cafe. Moreover, due to the proximity to the plumbing and the washroom, it works both functionally and at the same time lowers the investment costs for the intervention, sparing the budget. For its warmth, the chosen material is wood. Here you can admire clothes, jewelry and small objects, work, read, talk and play in a relaxed atmosphere, while enjoying a freshly ground coffee.

Functional Flexibility

The co-working / cafe space is an integral part of the commercial setting and can be extended as and when required. Thus, even while being used for a different purpose, the space still maintains its exhibition character. The “extra seat” modules are part of the furniture, enhancing the functional flexibility of the space: they can either be used to increase the exhibition space, or as extra seats and can also be easily stowed away.

Lighting Scheme

We worked with the existing light scheme while taking into consideration the needs for the new design. The space will have both areas of diffuse light and areas of punctual lighting as detailed in the scheme above.

Economics

The café and the store will have a cash register each but in the same place.
